DUSHANBE, December 30, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Issues related to further expansion of trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan were the major topic of a meeting of the head of Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Sharif Said with Najibulla Rahimi, Trade Attaché, Afghan Embassy in Dushanbe, which was held in Dushanbe on December 29, according to the CCI press service.

In the course of the talks, it was noted that a meeting of the representatives of business circles of Tajikistan’s Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region and Afghanistan’s Badakhshan Province would be held in Khorog, the capital of Gorno Badakhshan in the first half-year of 2009.  The meeting aims to promote further expansion of cross-border trade between the two provinces.

Besides, Afghan diplomat handed over a letter by Muhammad Kurban Haqjou, head of Afghanistan’s chamber of Commerce and Industry, to Sharif Said.  In his letter, Haqjou, in particular, proposed to hold an international exhibition formally titled “Economic Development of Afghanistan” in Dushanbe next year.  The exhibition is scheduled for April 20-22, 2009 and a conference of businesspeople of the two countries is expected to be held on sidelines of the exhibition, the press service said.
