Uzbek President Islam Karimov has invited Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to pay an official visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan. The invitation was extended in the Uzbek president”s message to the Turkmen leader, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat quoting the press service of the Turkmen president.

“Uzbekistan highly rates the rapidly expanding multifaceted relations with Turkmenistan that are based on principles of good neighborliness, mutual respect and openness. With a view to continuing our bilateral dialogue based on mutual trust, I would like to invite you, esteemed Gurbanguly Malikgulyyevich, to pay an official visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan on 24-25 February 2009,” the message said.

Islam Karimov expressed confidence that the forthcoming visit of the president of Turkmenistan “will allow for an in-depth discussion of the prospects for multifaceted relations in the interests of the Uzbek and Turkmen peoples.”
