DUSHANBE, March 24, 2008, Asia-Plus — Presenting amendments to the country’s law on state registry at a regular sitting of the fifth session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) of the third convocation, Deputy Justice Minister, Azizmat Imomov suggested on December 23 that persons having previous convictions and those deported or wanted by police should be prohibited from changing their names, Russian patronymic middle names and surnames.
“This measure seeks to regulate labor migration and improve cooperation between relevant services of Tajikistan and other countries of the world in seeking and detaining persons wanted by law enforcement authorities for crimes committed by them,” the deputy minister said.
MPs decided to send this proposal for additional study to the lower house’s committees and commissions.
