DUSHANBE, September 26, 2011, Asia-Plus  — A 220 kV power transmission line, Khujand-Ayni, will be put into operation today.

According to the presidential press service, President Emomali Rahmon is attending the ceremony of introduction of that power transmission line into operation.

Local experts consider that introduction of the Khujan-Ayni power transmission line into operation finishes creation of Tajikistan’s unified power system.  The Khujand-Ayni power transmission line will connect the Zarafshon Valley to the country’s unified power system through the 500kV South-North power grid.

The experts say the Khujand-Ayni power transmission system gives an opportunity to fully tackle the power supply problem in the Zarafshon Valley and allows freeing northern Tajikistan from energy dependence on Uzbekistan.

The Khujand-Ayni power transmission line is 118 kilometers in length and a total cost of this investment project is 37 million U.S. dollars.  The project was implemented with help of specialists from China’s TBEA under financial support of the Government of China.

We will recall that an agreement between Barqi Tojik and China’s TBEA on construction of the Khujand-Ayni power grid was signed on June 18, 2010 during President Rahmon’s visit to China.

The Tajik head of state will also inaugurate the small power plants Marzich and Dashti Iskodari in Ayni district today.
