KHUJAND, September 26, 2011, Asia-Plus — The trial of murders of Homid Karimov, former director of bazaar in the Surkh jamoat, Sugd’s Isfara district has been completed.
In all, eleven persons have been found guilty of having been involved in killing of Homid Karimov; eight of them have stood the trial, while three others are still wanted by police.
The Sughd regional court sentences Mansour Karimjonov, Abdullo Komilov, Fayoz Muhiddinov, Suhrob Zoitov, Nemat Sharipov, Zokirboy Homidov, and Abdusattor Zoidov to between 16 and 25 years in prison at the end of last week. The sentence followed their conviction on charges of murder, illegal acquisition and storage of weapons and complicity in the crime.
Besides, Mahkam Karimjonov got suspended jail term of five years for not reporting a crime, the source said.
We will recall that Homid Karimov was shot to death from assault rifle Kalashnikov on August 30, 2010. Homid Karimov, who was serving the remainder of his sentence in the open-prison settlement, visited his uncle in the Surkh jamoat on August 30 for iftor (the evening meal when Muslims break their fast during the Islamic month of Ramadan). When Karimov was leaving his uncle’s house, a car came up to the house and unidentified gunman shot Karimov to death from assault rifle Kalashnikov.
Isfara law enforcement authorities say Homid Karimov was member of one of criminal groupings that brutally beaten a local resident in May 2006. Five confederates of Karimov were sentenced to prison between 9 and 13 years that time, while Karimov himself managed to flee. He was later detained and sentenced to nine years in prison.
