DUSHANBE, October 13, 2011, Asia-Plus — Today together with other countries in the world Tajikistan is marking the International Day for Disaster Reduction.

Every year this day dedicated to the worldwide campaign to reduce disaster risks. This year International Day for Disaster Reduction focuses on children, it”s about CHILDREN and YOUNG PEOPLE as partners for DRR.

According to UND CO in Tajikistan, to mark the International Day for Disaster Reduction UNDP Tajikistan in partnership with the Committee for Emergency Situations (CES) and Dushanbe Education Department have organized drawing contest for schoolchildren on DRR topics. The contest is taking place in the building of Center for Children and Youth.

On the same day, Dushanbe secondary school #52 is preparing a School Conference on “Earthquakes” issues, which will be followed by a simulation exercise for the students.

October 13 of each year was designated by UN General Assembly as an International Day for Disaster Reduction.
