DUSHANBE, November 3, 2011, Asia-Plus — The Tajikistan Resident Mission of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has launched an art competition for school children of 7-8 grades in Dushanbe, the ADB Tajikistan Resident Mission (TJRM) said.

The theme is the Future of Tajikistan.

Organized by ADB under the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) program, the competition is being held to commemorate CAREC’s 10th anniversary.

Applicants should create an art work on the theme on official competition paper (available from the ADB Office in Dushanbe at 45, Sovetskaya Street, behind the Writers’ Union).  Each participant can only submit one drawing and entries must include a brief caption on the back, as well as the name, address, telephone, age, and school.  All entries should be submitted to the ADB Office in Dushanbe, the decision of the judges is final and copyright rests with ADB.

Following the November 11, 2011 deadline, a panel of judges will select 20 winning entries on the basis of originality, relevance to the competition theme, and creative/artistic ability, taking into account the age of the entrant.  The winning items will be displayed in ADB’s office and may be used for future ADB initiatives.  There will be an award presentation for the winning artists and their parents.

CAREC is a partnership of 10 countries—Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, the People’s Republic of China, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan—and six multilateral institutions: ADB, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, International Monetary Fund, Islamic Development Bank, United Nations Development Program, and World Bank. CAREC promotes regional cooperation in transport, energy, trade facilitation, and trade policy.  ADB has served as the CAREC Secretariat since 2001.  In November 2011, CAREC will mark its 10th anniversary.

ADB, based in Manila, is dedicated to reducing poverty in Asia and the Pacific through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth and regional integration.  Established in 1966, it is owned by 67 members – 48 from the region.  In 2010, ADB approvals, including co-financing, totaled $17.51 billion. In addition, ADB”s ongoing Trade Finance Program supported $2.8 billion in trade.
