Turkmenistan held elections of deputies to Majilis of IV convocation. Number of voters amounted to 2 million 594 thousand 658 people, or 93.87% of all Turkmen citizens eligible to vote by 18.00 local time, reports Turkmen State News Agency (TDH).

287 candidates for 125 parliamentary mandates were registered in the country commission.

2 million 763 thousand 993 Turkmen citizens eligible to vote were registered during the pre-election campaigns. According to Central Elections and Referendum Commission of Turkmenistan by 12.00 local time over 1 million 566 thousand 744 persons voted, which is 56% of the total registered voters. Thus, according to eh national legislation on deputies’ election to National Parliament the elections were proclaimed valid.

IN the embassies and consular offices of Turkmenistan in other countries 27 polling stations were opened, which gathered thousand of compatriots outside of Turkmenistan, the TDH says.

Over 60 international observers and experts were invited to the elections, among them representatives of European states and international organization, such as UN, OSCE, the CIS Executive Committee, and the International Foundation for Election Systems (IFES).

2130 national observers controlled the voting procedure.

According to Central Elections and Referendum Commission final voting results will be released soon.
