KHUJAND, December 15, 2008, Asia-Plus  — 32 foreign tourists have visited the Sughd province this year, but the majority of them have entered the province for traveling to the east of the country, Shuhrat Ahmadov, the chief of branch of the Interior Ministry migration service for Sughd, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.   

            According to him, tourists from the Netherlands, Germany, Japan, France, and Poland have entered the province this year and after registration with the migration service they have traveled to the east of the country, primarily to Gorno Badakhshan.  “They were interested in visiting the Lake Sarez, the Fedchenko Glacier and ascending the Ismoili Somoni Peak in the Pamirs,” Ahmadov said.   

            “Besides, the couple from France have traveled to the Fan Mountains and a group of Japanese students have entered Sughd to travel to the national reserve Tigrovaya Balka in Khatlon,” he said, that there was also a small group of Russian nationals that arrived in Sughd in the summer to have the rest at the Qairoqqum Reservoir.
