DUSHANBE, December 21, 2011, Asia-Plus – A mobile phone company operating in Tajikistan under the Tcell brand has launched seven new sites in Gorno Badakhshan.
According to Tcell’s headquarters in Dushanbe, the company launched the following new sites in Gorno Badakhshan on December 20, 2011: Saghirdasht in Qalai Khumb district; Vibist in Shugnan district; Badom in Roshtqala district; Demiyona in Shugnan district; Shokharazm in Roshtqala; Bijur in Roshtqala district; and Khaskharagh in Ishkashim district.
These sites reportedly allow increasing the coverage area and decreasing working load, and thereby, improve the quality of the cellular telecommunications services offered by Tcell.
The cellular operator Tcell, which has more than two million clients, is one of largest mobile phone companies in Tajikistan. Tcell now reportedly has significant share in Tajikistan’s telecommunications market.
“Tcell” in Tajikistan is represented by two legal companies: CJSC “Indigo Tajikistan”, operating in districts subordinate to the center (RRS), Khatlon province and Gorno Badakhshan and CJSC JV “Somoncom”, operating in Sughd province. Both companies share the same values, offer the same products and are owned by the same shareholders.
CJSC “Indigo Tajikistan” is perspective, advanced, prestigious and popular company offering mobile telecommunication services for businesses and customers for 9 years. Its experience is based on successful conduct of business in Tajikistan.
According to information posted on Tcell’s website, Tcell is a common brand of CJSC “Indigo Tajikistan” and CJSC JV “Somoncom” as of March 2010. Before this, they had worked under the “Indigo” brand.
CJSC “Indigo Tajikistan” (South Tajikistan) was established in November 2001. Indigo Tajikistan obtained a GSM-900 license in November 2001 and started commercial operation in July 2002.
In 2003, the North and South networks were united through a direct national roaming interconnection and continued working under the common brand of “Indigo”.
During 2005-2006, the companies launched automatic international roaming, channel and data transfer (including IP, GSM-900/1800 and telematic service), 3G-UMTS and WAP/GPRS/MMS services.
In July 2007, TeliaSonera acquired controlling interest in “Indigo Tajikistan” and “Somoncom”.
