DUSHANBE, March 17, 2012, Asia-Plus — Over the first two months of this year, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electrical power and natural gas, has amounted to 827.1 million U.S. dollars, which was 109.3 percent of the January-February 2011 level or 7.4 million U.S. dollars more, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.
The trade balance was negative and amounted to more than 415.3 million U.S. dollars.
Exports of goods over the first two months of this year have amounted to 205.9 million U.S. dollars, which is 22.2 percent or 58.6 million U.S. dollars fewer than in January-February of 2011.
Imports of goods into the country over the report period have amounted to 621.2 million U.S. dollars, which is 26.2 percent or 129 million dollars more than in January-February of 2011.
In January-February of 2012, Tajikistan had trade relations with 74 countries of the world, including nine CIS nations.
The CIS nations accounted for 42.6 percent (352.5 million U.S. dollars) of Tajikistan’s external trade turnover for the report period and other countries accounted for 57.4 percent (474.6 million U.S. dollars).
Compared to January 2012, Tajikistan’s exports last months decreased by 6.2 percent or 6.6 million U.S. dollars, while imports of good into the country last month increased by 12.4 percent or 36.2 million U.S. dollars.
Compared to January-February of 2011 cotton fiber exports over the first two months of this year have decreased by 34.3 percent and export of non-precious metals have decreased over the report period by 36.5 percent.
Over the report period, Tajikistan has imported 30.3 million cubic meters of natural gas for a total amount of 8 million U.S. dollars.
In January-February 2012, Tajikistan’s major export partners were: Turkey – 39.0 percent (of the overall volume of Tajikistan’s exports); China – 21.0 percent; Afghanistan – 10.9 percent; Switzerland – 6.6 percent; Latvia and Russia – 4.6 percent each.
Tajikistan’s major import partners in January 2012 were: Russia – 24.4 percent; Kazakhstan – 18.4 percent; the Virgin Irelands – 12.5 percent; China – 7.7 percent; Brazil – 6.0 percent; and Turkmenistan – 4.1 percent.
