Prosecutor-General’s Office reportedly inspects IRP’s activities

Date:

DUSHANBE, April 1, 2012, Asia-Plus – The Prosecutor-General’s Office is currently inspecting activities of the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan (IRP), BBC’s Tajik Service reported on March 30, citing the member of IRP’s Political Council, Hikmatullo Sayfullozoda.

According to Sayfullozoda, along with representatives from the Prosecutor-General’s Office tax officers have also inspected the party’s financial activities.  “Besides, they are also inspecting activities of all our offices in the provinces,” Sayfullozoda said.

Meanwhile, under the country’s legislation the Ministry of Justice must inspect activities of political parties, the IRP representative added.

“Representatives from the Tax Committee have inspected all our financial documents and sent them for consideration to the Prosecutor-General’s Office,” Sayfullozoda noted.

Besides, the Committee on Religious Affairs (CRA) under the Government of Tajikistan reportedly warned the Islamic Revival Party against using its headquarters for prayers.

Anonymous source at the Prosecutor-General’s Office reportedly told BBC that activities of the Islamic Revival Party like activities of other political parties are being inspected in accordance with the endorsed program of the Prosecutor-General’s Office.

We will recall that according to some media sources, Polyarnaya Zvezda on March 1 published an article entitled “Tajikistan on the Eve of Revolution.”  The article covered a meeting in which President Emomali Rahmon allegedly ordered security services to increase surveillance of local religious groups and members of the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan.
