Opening of Shakhristan tunnel postponed till Tajikistan’s Independence Day

Date:

The official opening ceremony of Shakhristan tunnel, in which Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon is scheduled to take part, will take place on the threshold of celebration of the 21st anniversary of Tajikistan’s Independence, which is celebrated in the country on September 9.

In his interview to AP first Deputy Chairman of Sughd province Jumaboy Sanginov said that the opening ceremony was postponed from June to September due to subsidence of rock in the tunnel.

As reported earlier, the tunnel was expected to become operational ahead of celebration of the 15th anniversary of Tajikistan’s National Unity Day which is celebrated on June 27.

“Main celebration events will be held in Istaravshan city,” first deputy governor of the province has said.

He said the construction of a new 20.000-seat stadium will be finished soon. Apart from the stadium, many social objects and industrial enterprises are planned to become operational.

He stressed that preparation works for the opening ceremony of Shakhristan tunnel are being carried out in Ayni, Shakhristan regions and Istaravshan city.
