Turajonzoda family’s mosque runs the risk of being closed

Date:

Turajonzoda’s family is planning to appeal to the Tajik Supreme Court against the Vakhdat court’s decision to shut down the mosque which was forbidden to make Friday prayer by the Committee for Religious Affairs.

“We received a copy of the court’s verdict, according to which the court ruled to shut down the Muhammadia mosque. At the same time, when the verdict was announced for the first time, court officials did not say they were going to shut the mosque down. The verdict said the mosque was forbidden to make Friday prayer. The court allowed the mosque to make five-fold prayer. However, as we can see now, the court’s decision is interpreted otherwise,” the Islamnews.tj quotes Buzurgmehr Yerov, Turajonzoda’s family’s lawyer, as saying.

At the same time, Mr.Yerov said that the judge of the Vakhdat court confirmed that the mosque is allowed to carry out five-fold daily prayer.

“However, the court’s decision is now interpreted the other way. That is why we decided to appeal to the Tajik Supreme Court to avoid any possible accusations if the mosque continues to make five-fold prayer,” the lawyer said.

Hoji Akbar Turajonzoda said “we are not going to stop praying in our mosque. Even if they decide to launch criminal proceedings we still going to pray here.”

“We will appeal to international courts if the Tajik Supreme Court rules out that Muhammadia mosque is forbidden to make five-fold prayer,” the lawyer added.
