DUSHANBE, July 16, 2012, Asia-Plus — Over the first six months of this year, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan has amounted to 2.4316 billion U.S. dollars, which was 109.8 percent of the January-July 2011 level or 218 million U.S. dollars more, Nemat Rahmatov, the principal deputy head of the Customs Service under the Government of Tajikistan, announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on July 16.

Exports of goods over the first six months of this year have amounted to 664.9 million U.S. dollars, which is 6.8 percent or 40.7 million U.S. dollars fewer than in January-May of 2011.

Imports of goods into the country over the report period have amounted to 1.7666 billion U.S. dollars, which is 15.7 percent or nearly 240 million dollars more than in January-June of 2011, Rahmatov noted.

Primary aluminum and cotton fiber accounted for 44.1 and 17.8 percent of Tajikistan’s exports respectively.

The major items of import into Tajikistan over the report period were oil products – 11.1 percent, alumina – 7.7 percent, wheat flour – 3.9 percent, wheat – 4.1 percent, etc.

In January-June 2012, Tajikistan’s major export partners were: Turkey – 36.8 percent (of the overall volume of Tajikistan’s exports); China – 19.0 percent; Afghanistan – 8.0 percent; Kazakhstan – 7.9 percent, Switzerland – 6.9 percent, and Russia – 6.3 percent.

Tajikistan’s major import partners over the same six-month period were: Russia – 24.4 percent; Kazakhstan – 16.1 percent; China – 10.5 percent; the United States – 5.6 percent; and Iran – 4.4 percent.  

In January-June this year, customs services have remitted 1.2791 billion somoni to the national budget, Rahmatov noted.
