DUSHANBE, July 20, 2012, Asia-Plus — In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, Nusratullo Davlatov, head of the Tax Committee under the Government of Tajikistan revealed on July 20 that Barqi Tojik (the state-owned utility responsible for generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity in Tajikistan) remains the most incorrigible defaulter.
“As of January 1, 2012, Barqi Tojik’s tax debts reached nearly 370 million somoni (equivalent to more than 77.5 million U.S. dollars),” Davlatov noted.
OJSC Sangtudinskaya GES-1, which operates the Sangtuda-1 hydropower the Khujand-based empties producing plant, Lal, were also listed among the most incorrigible defaulters. “Sangtudinskaya GES-1’s tax debts no amount to 46 million somoni and Lal’s tax debts reached 5.4 million somoni,” Tajik chief tax officers noted.
Meanwhile, total tax debts have risen by 70.4 million somoni over the first six months of this year, reaching 602.2 million somoni (equivalent to more than 126 million U.S. dollars).
The tax collection target has been over fulfilled by 5.6 percent over the same six-month period. Tax officers have reportedly collected 2.232 billion somoni over the report period, which is 123 million more than it was originally planned.
