President Rahmon receives EU’s new Central Asian envoy

DUSHANBE, July 23, 2012, Asia-Plus  — On Monday July 23, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon received Ambassador Patricia Flor, the European Union (EU) Special Representative for Central Asia, the president’s official website reports.

In the course of the talks, the sides reportedly expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union and assessed positively the process of implementation of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) between the European Union and Tajikistan and EU’s strategy for Central Asia designed for 2007-2013.

The two also discussed issues related to cooperation in the fields of social protection of the population, enhancement of health, educational, industrial, transportation and energy sectors in Tajikistan, as well as providing  human rights and freedoms and supremacy of law.

President Rahmon and Ambassador Flor expressed confidence that integration of Tajikistan into international structures would serve the removal of artificial barriers in the way of expansion of regional cooperation in Central Asia.

During the meeting, the sides also touched upon issues of establishing peace and accord in Afghanistan, the source said.
