ISFARA, September 21, 2012, Asia-Plus — The next meeting on a cross-border cooperation between border communities of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan has been completed at Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan.

“During four days, more than 40 participants in the meeting discussed issues related to strengthening of coordinated actions between local authorities Kyrgyzstan’s Jalalabad and Batken regions and Tajikistan’s Sughd province for expansion of cross-border cooperation between border communities of the two countries,” Mr. Ghiyosiddin Esanov, an official representative of Tajikistan’s Sughd province to Kyrgyzstan’s Batken region, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, the meeting participants worked the strategy and the plan of joint actions on cross-border cooperation for 2013 and shared their experiences.

Senior representatives from administrations and police departments of the Bobojonghafurov, Spitamen, and Jabborrasoulov districts and the city of Isfara represented Tajikistan at this meeting.

The meeting was reportedly organized by the UNDP Country Office in Kyrgyzstan and the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA)’s office in Kyrgyzstan.

The overall objective of BOMCA is to secure the gradual adoption of modern border management methods in Central Asia with the purpose of enhancing border security and facilitating legal trade and transit.
