DUSHANBE, October 10, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Deputies of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament have ratified two financial agreements concluded with the Export-Import Bank of China and the Government of France.

A regular sitting of the fourth session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the fourth convocation, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov, was held on October 10.

Speaking at the session, Deputy Finance Minister, Ruhullo Hakimov, noted that under an agreement on preferential loan singed between the Government of Tajikistan and the Export-Import Bank of China, the Chinese bank provides 50.5 million U.S dollars for rehabilitation of the Dushanbe-Danghara highway.

The loan carrying a 2-percent interest rate is repayable within 20 years with a nine-year grace period, the deputy minister said.

MPs ratified the agreement unanimously.

The Majlisi Namoyandagon deputies ratified a government-to-government financial protocol between Tajikistan and France on the project for construction of a new terminal at the Dushanbe airport of May 1, 2009 and additional agreement to this protocol of June 29, 2012 unanimously as well.

Speaking on this subject, MP Ismoil Talbakov noted that the financial protocol provides for increase in Tajikistan’s contribution to the project from 7 million to 19 million euros while France’s contribution to the project remains the same – 20 million euros.

We will recall that the project for construction of an international terminal at the Dushanbe airport is being implemented under financial support of France.  France has provided Tajikistan a long-term, low interest 20 million euro loan to fund the construction of the terminal.

The overall space of the international terminal at the Dushanbe airport is expected to be 11,000 square meters and it will able to receive more than 5,000 passengers per hour.  Specialists say the project will bring the Dushanbe airport up to international air traffic standards.
