DUSHANBE, October 16, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Ways to establish mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajik and British companies were a major topic of a meeting of Mr. Umed Davlatzod, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan with Mr. Damion Potter, Head of Commercial Section, UK Trade & Investment Russia that took place here on October 15.

British Ambassador to Tajikistan Robin Ord-Smith also attended the meeting.

According to the press center of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT), Davlatzod briefed the guests on the current investment climate in Tajikistan and privileges stipulated by Tajikistan’s legislation for foreign investors.

Mr. Damion Potter, for his part, noted that he arrived in Tajikistan to study the country’s investment potential.

The sides reportedly discussed issues related to establishment of cooperation in sectors like mineral extraction, farm produce processing, stock exchanges, including equity market as well as investment in free economic zones.

According to data from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, trade between Tajikistan and the United Kingdom over the first nine months of this year has valued at only some 8.7 million U.S. dollars.  This consisted only of Tajikistan’s imports from the United Kingdom.
