KHUJAND, November 3, 2008, Asia-Plus — Border guard has been detained don suspicion of having taken bribe.   

According to the Sughd police directorate, a 20-year-old Jumakhon Abdulloyev, a serviceman of border unit 2601 deployed in Sughd’s Spitamen district, was detained on October 30 while taking bribe from local entrepreneur Alibek Karimov.  

A source at the Sughd police directorate said that the border guard had demanded 300 somoni from the entrepreneur for transportation of food products from the Uzbek border district to the Spitamen district.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the border guard under the provisions of two articles of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – Article 32 (preparation for crime or attempted crime) and Article 319, part 2 (acceptance of brine by official); an investigation is under way.
