DUSHANBE, March 1, Asia-Plus – “Uztransgaz” (Uzbek gas supply company) has demanded that “Tojikgaz” (Tajik state gas concern) should present guarantee letter from the Tajik government that the gas supplies debt will be paid until March 15.

According to information from “Tojikgaz”, if they pay at least a part of the debt, which amounts to US$4 million, during this period, Uzbekistan will not cut off but just reduce gas supplies to Tajikistan.  The source says negotiations with the Uzbek side on this subject are ongoing.

We will recall that Uztransgaz Monday [February 27] sent to Tojikgaz a telephoned telegram warning about cutting off gas supplies to Tajikistan.  In the meantime, a total debt of the public to the Tajik gas concern for natural gas amounts to some 130 million Somonis (equivalent to some US$ 43 million).
