DUSAHNBE, April 28, Asia-Plus – 252,871 hectares of lands have been sown in
Tajikistan
as of April 28, which is 98.3 percent of areas provided for cotton, according to information from the Agriculture Ministry.
The source says the cotton-sowing campaign in the country is nearing completion. “It is supposed to be finished within the next two days,” the source said.
Some districts in the southern
province
of
Khatlon
, including Vakhsh, Qubodiyon and Kolkhozobod, have already completed the cotton-sowing works.
In Khatlon, 156,151 hectares have been sown with cotton so far. Their target for this year is 160,000 hectares.
The Sughd cotton growers have sown with cotton 75,711 hectares (this years’ target has been determined at 76,475 hectares).
In the districts subordinate to the center (RRP), cotton-growing farms have sown with cotton more than 21,000 hectares of lands. Their target for this year has been determined at 22,114 hectares.

ill have been sown with cotton, which is 38,000 hectares fewer compared to last year. And the annual national target on cotton has been brought down from 610,000 tons in 2005 to 550,000 in 2006.
Compared to 2004 there was a 19.6 percent reduction in the volume of cotton yielded in 2005. In 2005,

yielded some 448,000 tons of cotton, which is 109,069 tons fewer compared to 2004.
