DUSHANBE, May 8, Asia-Plus — Казахстан and Tajikistan are ready to expand cooperation in agrarian sector.

Reuters reports that Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, at a news conference with President Rahmonov, expressed concern about rise in consumer prices in Kazakhstan and proposed to import early vegetables and fruits from Tajikistan.  He noted that it was even possible to use aviation for shipment of perishable products.

Nazarbayev also pointed to the necessity of development of ground transportation between the two countries.  “Tajikistan is linked to Kazakhstan by automotive communication via Uzbekistan,” said Nazarbayev, “But at present Tajikistan is also building road to Kyrgyzstan and we intend to develop the route Almaty-Bishkek-Dushanbe because it provide us access to Kandahar (Afghanistan) and the Qaraqorum Highway.”
