KHUJAND, May 29, Asia-Plus – The 25th regional conference of the organization of the Communist Party (CPT) for Sughd was held in Khujand on May 27. 

The conference was held to sum up the results of work carried out by the CPT organization in Sughd over the past five months and elect new composition of the organization’s executive administration and delegates for the party’s congress that will be held in Dushanbe.  

Leader of the CPT organization for Sughd Ghufronjon Rustamov was reelected fro a new term.  

The CPT chairman Shodi Shabdolov telling the conference noted that the CPT organization in Sughd having 21,160 members was the largest in the republic.  “Over the past five year, 2,500 people have entered our party and to date, a total number of members of the CPT is 50,000 people,” Shodi Shabdolov said.  

According to him, some 20,000 members have left the party.  “Seeking better employment opportunities, many of them have left the country,” Shabdolov said.  

At present the CPT has its two representatives in the upper chamber of Tajik parliament and four representatives in the lower chamber of the parliament.
