KONIBODOM, June 1, Asia-Plus — Torrential rain on the night of May 30-31 caused damage to farming units in the Lohuti jamoat of the northern district of Konibodom.

Shukurjon Nurmatov, the head of the farming unit of “Mahmutobod” in the village of Qarachiqum, has told Asia-Plus that heavy rainfalls damaged in several places a 300-meter fill riverbank protection works.

“As a result of this, five hectares of area sown with wheat have been destroyed,” Mr. Nurmatov said, noting that a pump supplying water to the farming unit’s fields was buried under mudslide caused by the torrential rain.

“If the pump is not repaired within the next few days, young fruit trees may perish,” said Shukurjon Nurmatov, “Torrential rain has caused serious damage to the farming unit “Dehqonobod” as well.”
