KULOB, June 9, Asia-Plus – Four of ten districts in the Kulob region of Khatlon have launched grain harvesting campaign.  

Rajabali Kulabekov, chief agronomist with the Kulob Agriculture Administration, says that the grain farms have to date gathered wheat harvest from 1,133 hectares of farmland. 

“In the area of 683 hectares the harvest has been gathered by combine harvesters and in the rest area, farmers have gathered the harvest by hand.”  The first threshing has yielded 1091 tons of grain, which makes on average 1.59 tons per one hectare, according to Kulabekov.  

Kulabekov has expressed confidence that average wheat yields in region will increase with the beginning of grain harvesting campaign in Temurmalik and Danghara districts, where average wheat yields are traditionally higher that 2tons/ha.  

All in all, 79,560 hectares of farmland in the Kulob region have been sown with wheat.
