DUSHANBE, June 24, Asia-Plus — More than 4,000 students have been expelled from Tajikistan’s Tax and Law Institute since the beginning of this year.

Mr. Abdusamad Mulloyev, first deputy head of the attestation, accreditation and licensing department of the Ministry of Education, claims that some 95 percent of them were expelled for non-attendance at the institute.

“Attestation held in the institute in April and May this year has recorded numerous instances of violation of law and other shortcomings, according to him.

Mr. Mulloyev says that in January this year, 23,548 students studied at Tajik Tax and Law Institute, while according to the license given to the institute, some 3,500 students should study at it.  Earlier, at the request of the institute’s administration it was permitted to increase the number of students annually accepted from 705 to 1000.  It was connected with a large number of those wanting to enter the institute.

The Ministry of Economy and Trade jointly with the Ministry of Education worked out a plan under which the instituted had to accept for studying 1000 students in the 2003-2004 academic year and 1,500 students in the 2004-2005 academic year.  However, the attestation has revealed that the institute’s administration violated the plan and accepted more than 5,000 students in the 2004-2005 academic year and more than 6,000 students in the 2005-2006 academic year.  Besides, it was established that a large number of students have not attended the lessons.

According to Mr. Mulloyev, the further destiny of the institute will be discussed at a board meeting of the Education Ministry scheduled for the end of this month.

This year, the Tax and Law Institute has turned out 1,750 graduates.  At present, 17,726 students are studying at this institute.
