DUSHANBE, August 8, Asia-Plus — A terrorist, who blew himself up in the Tajik northern city of Isfara on August 3, has been identified as Orif Jalolov, an active member of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU), Tohir Normatov, the head of the chief staff of the Ministry of Interior, said in his interview with Asia-Plus.  

He recalled that officers from local police had conducted a raid in Isfara to arrest alleged members of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan.  

Orif Jalolov detonated a hand grenade, as police were attempting to arrest him and a man who was with him.  Jalolov blew himself up, killing one police officer and wounding another two. 

As a result of the explosion chief of the squad for combating organized crime within the Isfara police directorate, Lieutenant-Colonel Ikrom Jalolov, was killed.  The explosion also killed Orif Jalolov, who was holding the RGDP-5 grenade.  Two police officers – deputy chief of the squad for combating organize crime, Iskandar Roziqov, and deputy commander of a rapid-reaction squad, Shamsiddin Naimov – were seriously injured and taken to the central district hospital in Isfara.  A man who was with Orif Jalolov managed to flee, according to Mr. Normatov.     

A team of the MoI is currently working in Isfara to investigate into the incident.
