DUSHANBE, August 22, Asia-Plus  — The coordinating council of the CIS chief prosecutors opened at the “Kokhi Vahdat” State Complex in Dushanbe today morning.

Russian Prosecutor-General Yuri Chaika presides over this session.  Telling the session he pointed to the necessity of taking efforts to coordinate interaction and expand cooperation between the CIS countries in the field of public order and observance of human rights, fight against corruption, transnational crime, drug trafficking and other threats and challenges.

We will recall that six issues, including draft agreement on cooperation and interaction in fighting corruption, have topped the agenda of the session of the CIS coordinating council of chief prosecutors.  Besides, participants at this session will elect chairman of the coordinating council and discuss the issues related to a new system of payment of work of prosecutors and the possibility of use of Standards of Professional Responsibility and Statement of the Essential Duties and Rights of Prosecutors approved by the International Association of Prosecutors in 1999.     

The International Association of Prosecutors” Standards of Professional Responsibility and Statement of the Essential Duties and Rights of Prosecutors is a statement, which serves as an international benchmark for the conduct of individual prosecutors and of prosecution services.

            The CIS chief prosecutors’ meeting is also considering the results of work of the CIS prosecutor-general’s offices and other issues.
