DUSHANBE, August 30, Asia-Plus — On Tuesday August 29, the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe and Khujand State University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will enable the U.S. Department of State, Office of English Language Programs, to provide an English Language Fellow, Michelle M. Barrington, to the University’s Faculty of Foreign Languages.

According to information from the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe, the English Language Fellow arrived in Tajikistan several days ago to begin the 2006-2007 school year.

English Language Fellows are recent graduates from Masters degree programs focusing on Teaching English as a Foreign Language and/or Teaching English as a Second Language.  English Language Fellows serve as full-time English language teachers at their host institutions, and also participate in informal activities related to English language instruction and American culture.  English Language Fellows work with foreign language teachers to develop more modern and effective methods of teaching English language communication.

The English Language Fellow Program is a 10-month program to enhance English teaching ability and provide foreign teachers and students with the communication skills they will need to participate in the global economy.  The U.S. Department of State, Office of English Language Programs, funds the English Language Fellow program.
