DUSHANBE, October 11, Asia-Plus – Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov yesterday visited the Qumsangir district to familiarize himself with a progress of reconstruction work in the areas hit by two earthquakes on July 29.

A source at the government said that the Khatlon governor Amirsho Miraliyev and heads of a number of ministries and organizations had accompanied the prime minister on this trip.

340 servicemen of the Ministry of Emergency Situations are involved in the reconstruction work in Qumsangir, according to the source.  After the tragedy more than 661 tents were sent to the district for people that had been left homeless.

The source added that the prime minister had ordered to take measures to cover the urgent remaining needs of the tremor-hit population and complete reconstruction of houses before the winter begins.

Funds provided from the country’s budget have been spent for purchasing building materials, including 2,000 tons of cement, nearly 4,500 sheets of slate, 57,800 cubic meters of building timber and 27,400 tons of lime.

According to the national emergency commission, they have to date laid foundations for 702 residential buildings, built walls in 251 houses and roofed 78 houses.  47 houses have already been put in exploitation.
