DUSHANBE, October 25, Asia-Plus – 73 movies fro 13 countries cross the world will be shown during the Second Tajikistan International Film Festival, Didor, that will be held in Tajik capital, the festival director general Safar Haqdodov told journalists in Dushanbe on October 23.

According to him, works by filmmakers from Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Armenia, France, Georgia, Iran, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Uzbekistan will be represented in the festival that will kick off on October 26 and last until October 30.

The festival will work in several sections, including international competition (ten full-length and eight short-length movies).  Winners in this section will be given award of 3,000 U.S. dollars each (prizes are presented by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation).  In the Common Heritage section, four full-length and five short-length movies will compete for awards (US$4,000 as well as travel to Iran).

Besides, films of Iran’s center for documentaries and experimental movie will be shown in the nomination entitled “Afghanistan: Sight from Outside and Inside.”

A collection by Kazakhstan’s filmmaker Gulnara Abibbekova entitled “Two Eras in National Self-Determination in Central Asia’s Cinema: the 60-s and 90-s” will also be shown during the film festival in Dushanbe.

An international jury includes well-known filmmakers, actors and critics.

The festival’s program furthers the concept of the first Didor festival, which was intended to be a cultural bridge between eastern and western cultures and remove any critical attitudes of the West to the East and vice versa.

The festival will start with demonstration of “Ovora” (The Rover) by Gulandom Muhabbatova and Daler Rahmatov.

The parallel program of the festival will include roundtable meeting “East-West: Prospects of Partnership in Cinema”, master-classes for young Tajik cinematographers and TV journalists.

The First Tajikistan International Film Festival was held in October 2004.
