DUSHANBE, October 25, Asia-Plus – On Monday October 23, President Emomali Rahmonov met with acting World Bank’s Director for the countries of Central Asia Annette Dixon, presidential press service reported.  

 According to presidential press service, in the course of the talks the two discussed Tajikistan’s monetary policy, investment environment and development of private sector in the republic and also touched upon problems of the cotton sector and the implementation of energy projects.  

Presidential press service said that Dixon highly appraised the economic policy and the investment environment in the country and hailed measures to ease visa rules and improve services rendered by the country’s air transportation, as well as legislation on drumming up investments.  

For his part, Rahmonov appreciated the International Development Association’s providing US$28 million to support improvement of the water supply system in Dushanbe and social sector, as well as resolving problems connected with the cotton farmers’ debts, presidential press service said.  

The sides also considered issues related to preparations for the Central Asia and South Asia electricity trade conference that will be held be in Dushanbe on October 26-29. 

They also considered related to Tajikistan’s national development program and a progress of the implementation of the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP).
