DUSHANBE, November 7, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan’s Country Office of the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) yesterday announced launch of News Briefing Central Asia (NBCA) project.

NBCA covers the latest developments in the fields of politics, economics and social life of four Central Asia’s states – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

Saodat Asanova, chairperson of the IWPR Dushanbe Office, said that the project offers a new concept in regional reporting, which comprises analysis and “news behind the news,” covering Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

Drawing on an extensive network of more than 100 experts and commentators throughout the region, NBCA reports on regional politics, economics and social trends, offering original perspectives and the context and meaning often hidden by the headlines.  Asanova said that NBCA goes beyond the news – allowing readers to comprehend regional developments from an independent perspective and in a broader social and political context.

The initiative, supported by the US Department of State, seeks to provide independent regional perspectives to strengthen local print and electronic media throughout Central Asia.
