DUSHANBE, November 15, Asia-Plus — Members of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan upper chamber of parliament) have unanimously seconded the law requiring an oath of loyalty to the president.
The seventh session of the Majlisi Milli presided over by it speaker Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev was held on November 15.
The session considered nine laws adopted by the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament). Among them are the laws on military service, diplomatic service and accounting as well as the administrative code.
Mahkam Mahmoudov, the head of the Majlisi Milli Committee on Constitution, Legality and Human Rights, commenting on the law on taking up by servicemen of the oath of loyalty to the president said that the similar law had been adopted in a number of the CIS states.
According to Ubaidulloyev, the oath of loyalty to the president is one of symbols of Tajik statehood, which are gradually introduced in the country.
In accordance with this law, the Majlisi Milli seconded amendments made to the RT Law “On the Military Service.” Under these amendments servicemen take up the oath of loyalty to the president after the presidential election.
A newly elected president will take up the office swear and oath at a joint meeting of the Majlisi Milli and the Majlisi Namoyandagon that will held on November 18. After that 5,000 servicemen will take up the oath of loyalty to the president and march in the parade at the Dusti Square in Dushanbe.
