DUSHANBE, January 10, Asia-Plus – 56 residential buildings in the Vorukh jamoat of the northern district of Isfara and school # 6 in the northern district of Shahriston were partially damaged by an earthquake that struck Tajikistan Monday night, according to the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (CESCD).  

A source at a CESCD said that no casualties had been reported.  “Local emergency services fully control the situation,” the source said.  

We will recall that the tremor hit Tajikistan at around 10:22 p.m.  According to the Institute of Seismology of Tajik Academy of Sciences, the earthquake was centered on the border of Tajikistan with Kyrgyzstan, some 180 kilometers northeast of Dushanbe.  In the epicenter, the tremor’s magnitude was 5.0 on the Richter scale. 

In Dushanbe, the quake’s magnitude was 3.5 on the Richter scale.  The tremor could be felt in other regions of Tajikistan as well.  In Khujand, the tremors magnitude was 4.0 and in Norak 3.5.
