DUSHANBE, February 2, Asia-Plus – On January 30, the Government of Tajikistan passed resolution raising electricity prices in the country.
By the resolution electricity prices in Tajikistan have risen on average by 25 percent since February 1, according to Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding.
Under the resolution, current prices are 3.6 dirams per one kWh of electricity for industrial enterprises (against the previous 2.6 dirams), 6.4 dirams for agricultural enterprises (against the previous 4.97 dirams), 2 dirams for institutions funded from the budget (against the previous 1.6 dirams), and 6.4 dirams for commercial enterprises (against the previous 4.9 dirams).
Residential customers now pay 2 dirams (against the previous 1.6 dirams) for usage up to 250 kWh of electricity, and 3.4 dirams (against the previous 2.7 dirams) for usage in excess of this amount.
We will recall that Energy and Industry Minister Sherali Gulov told journalists in Dushanbe on January 24 that an average price of one kWh of electricity in Tajikistan will have reached 7 dirams by 2010. He noted that time that the electricity rates will rise in order to recoup the investments Tajikistan is currently making to build hydropower plants and power-transmission lines.
