KULOB, February 5, Asia-Plus – The organization of the Democratic Party (DPT) led by Masoud Sobirov for the Kulob region of Khatlon province has decided to boycott additional parliamentary elections in the Kulob and Hamadoni constituencies set for April 1.

We will recall that the elections will be held to replace MPs Abudjabbor Shamsov and Asadullo Abdulloyev in connection with transfer of them to other jobs.  Shamsov was appointed deputy interior minister and Abdulloyev was appointed to head the Khuroson district in Khatlon.

Amrokhon Safarov, the head of the Sobirov-run DPT for the Kulob region, said in an interview with Asia-Plus that they have decided not to take part in the elections, since they consider it to be unfair and not transparent.

In the meantime, according to unofficial sources, the People’s Democratic Party (DPT), the Communist Party (CPT), the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT) and probably the Agrarian Party (APT) plan to field their candidates in the upcoming additional elections in the Kulob and Hamadoni constituencies.
