KHUJAND, February 21, Asia-Plus – The results of implementation of an Independence Day amnesty law were discussed at a February 20 board meeting of the Sughd prosecutor’s office in Khujand.
Deputy Sughd prosecutor, Muhabbat Urunova, noted that the amnesty law had applied to 4,455 people.
According to her, 565 people, including 144 women and 39 foreigners, had been released in the Sughd province since August 18, 2006, when the amnesty law took affect. 1,700 prisoners have been granted partial amnesty, in which sentences of 1,488 prisoners were reduced by third and sentences of 212 prisoners were reduced by fourth.
She added that 336 people had been granted amnesty in the course of the preliminary investigation and 442 had been granted amnesty in the course of hearings.
