The operation was launched by mayor’s resolution on March 3 and runs through May 3.  The operation is being carried out along banks of the Dushanbinka and Luchob rivers as well as canals in the capital city.

Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor, said that the Dushanbe department for public services and utilities responsible for the carrying out the operation is to cover representatives from the city enterprises and educational facilities as well as ministries and organizations situated in Dushanbe into the event.

In the meantime, Bahrom Mahmadaliyev, the head of the Dushanbe directorate for environmental protection, said in an interview with Asia-Plus that a similar event was held in Dushanbe last year as well, and students at higher educational institutions as well as representatives from enterprises and the public took part in that.  “This year, it has been decided to carry out the ecological campaign during two months,” Mahmadaliyev said.

In parallel, meetings will be held to raise the population’s awareness of the environmental protection issues, according to him.
