DUSHANBE, March 14, Asia-Plus – Some 2,000 Tajik students now study at higher educational institutions in foreign countries, primarily in the CIS states.

            Noilsho Nouraliyev, a spokesman for the Ministry of Education (MoE), said that 146 students were sent to the Russian Federation alone to study various disciplines.  Besides, another 100 students were sent to Kazakhstan last year, according to him.  

            Nouraliyev noted that by quotas allotted for Tajikistan by different countries, at present 19 Tajik students study in China, 25 in Turkey, two in Slovakia, 10 in Ukraine, 20 in Kyrgyzstan, 13 in Iran, and five in Japan.  

            “From 1994 to 2006, more than 1,000 students graduated form higher educational institutions in other countries,” Nouraliyev said.  

            Besides, 32 post-graduate students and persons working for the degree of doctor now take training courses abroad.   

            The spokesman added that during President Rahmonov’s visit to Egypt it had become known that some 600 students now study at educational facilities of this country, primarily at the Islamic educational institutions.
