DUSHANBE, April 2, Asia-Plus – The government has considered and endorsed projects for restructuring five large enterprises in the country.

Tohirjon Askarov, the head of the department for restructuring and bankruptcy of state-run enterprises of the State Committee for Investments and Management of State-run Property, told Asia-Plus that the government had to date approved projects for restructuring the state-owned national telecommunications operator Tojik Telecom, Tojikcement (Dushanbe cement plant), TajikTeleRadioKom, TajikKhimProm (chemical plant in Yovon) and national air carrier TajikAir.

“Joint-stock companies will be set up on the basis of these enterprises,” said Askarov, “Shares of these companies may be purchased both by the present leaderships of these enterprises and any other juridical or physical entities, including foreign citizens.”

According to him, projects for restructuring four other large enterprises – Tamokhush, Khimzavod (comical plant in the northern city of Isfara), Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) holding company and Tojikgaz (Tajik natural-gas-distributor) – are currently under consideration by the government.

Askarov added that as far as the remaining large enterprises subject to restructuring, including Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO), Tajik Railways, Naftrason (oil products) and others, are concerned, they have to submit their restructuring projects to the committee for investments and management of state-run property before the end of the year.

We will recall that under the government resolution on privatization of medium-sized and large enterprises and restructuring of entities of natural monopoly in 2003-2007, 37 enterprises, including 14 especially large ones, in the country should be restructured.
