DUSHANBE, April 3, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s Red Crescent Society (RCS) is the first among the National Societies in Central Asia to adopt the Reserve Disaster Response Plan.

Madina Sayfiddinova, the RCS pubic relations officer, said that this plan serves as a centralized source of information, tasks and operational procedures necessary to facilitate a decision-making process and opportunely respond to disasters.

According to her, the RCS Secretary General Varqa Okhonniyozov presenting the Reserve Disaster Response Plan at headquarters of the International Federation of red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in Geneva noted that Tajikistan is located in a tremor-prone zone and such plan is necessary to promptly respond to emergency situations.

“The plan provides for coordination of activities of all organizations dealing with issues of mitigation of disaster effects,” Sayfiddinova said.

During his stay in Geneva, the RSC General Secretary held a number of meetings with representatives from the Norwegian, Swedish, Spanish and Finnish Red Cross Societies to discuss cooperation issues.
