DUSHANBE, May 15, Asia-Plus — Dr. Attiya Inayatullah, Chairperson of Standing Committee of the National Assembly of Pakistan for Foreign Affairs, arrived in Dushanbe on May 14 for a two-day visit, Tajik MFA said.  

During her stay in Tajikistan, Dr. Inayatullah is scheduled to hold meetings with the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Speaker Saydullo Khairulloyev, Economic Development and Trade Minister Ghulomjon Boboyev, Energy and Industries Minister Sherali Gulov, as well as some other high-ranking Tajik state officials to discuss issues related to further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Tajikistan in different fields.

The National Assembly is the lower house of the bicameral Parliament of Pakistan   There are a total of 342 seats in the National Assembly.  Of these, 272 are filled by direct elections.  In addition, the Pakistani Constitution reserves 10 seats for religious minorities and 60 seats for women, to be filled by proportional representation among parties with more than 5% of the vote. As of 2006, there are 72 women members in the Assembly.  Members of the National Assembly are elected by the people in competitive multi-party elections, to be held at most five years apart.
