DUSHANBE, May 23, Asia-Plus  — Ms. Ana Maria Cetto, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Deputy Director General, and Head of Department of Technical Cooperation, is arriving in Tajikistan for a three-day visit tomorrow, according to Tajik MFA.

The source at Tajik MFA said that the main purpose of the visit is for the IAEA deputy director general to familiarize herself with a progress of the implementation of national technical cooperation projects and discuss with Tajik officials issues related to nuclear and radioactive security in Tajikistan.   

During her stay in Dushanbe, Ms. Ana Maria Cetto will hold talks with President Emomali Rahmon, Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi, Health Minister Rano Abdurahmonova, as well as meet with senior representatives from Tajik Academy of Sciences and other Tajik officials.  

The IAEA deputy director general’s visit to Tajikistan will last till May 27. 

Ms. Cetto holds a degree in Physics from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), a Masters Degree in Biophysics of Harvard University, and a Masters and PhD from UNAM.  Before joining the Agency, Ms. Cetto was a research professor at the Institute of Physics, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Head of the Department of Physics at UNAM.  Her primary area of research is theoretical physics and she has made widely recognized contributions to the theory of stochastic electrodynamics.  Ms. Cetto joined the IAEA as Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation in January 2003.
