DUSHANBE, May 31, Asia-Plus – Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, speaker of the upper house (Majlisi Milli) of Tajik parliament, has been elected as chairman of the Interstate Parliamentary Assembly of the Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC)

The 8th session of the EAEC Interstate Parliamentary Assembly was held in St. Petersburg on May 30. 

Shavkat Saidov, an aide to the Majlisi Milli speaker for relations with media and NGOs, said that the session had considered an experience of work of the Zhogorku Kenesh (Kyrgyzstan’s parliament) in bringing the country’s legislation into compliance with international agreement concluded within the framework of EAEC as well as issues related to laying legal foundation of the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia. 

The session also adopted recommendations on tackling problems of labor migration.     

Saidov said that the Majlisi Milli speaker Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev had been elected to head the EAEC Interstate Parliamentary Assembly in the coming two years.

After the session, Ubaidulloyev and the previous head of the EAEC Interstate Parliamentary Assembly Boris Gryzlov gave a news conference. 

Speaking to journalists, Ubaidulloyev pointed to the necessity of further intensification of activity of the Interstate Parliamentary Assembly to expand cooperation between member nations of EAEC, the aide said.
