DUSHANBE, July 18, Asia-Plus — The third congress of the Movement for National Unity and Revival of Tajikistan (MNURT), known in Tajik as the Harakati Vahdati Milli va Ehyoi Tojikiston, was held at the Kokhi Vahdat State Complex in Dushanbe on July 18.  

Delegates from all regions of the country as well as many foreign guests attended the congress that was addressed by President Emomali Rahmon.      

The Movement for National Unity and Revival in Tajikistan (MNURT) is Tajikistan”s largest political movement.  It is sponsored by the government and chaired by President Rahmon.  The MNURT was formed in July 1997 and registered that August.  It declared its aim as the unification of “different social layers and forces of Tajikistan and the establishment of a stable civil accord, mutual trust and agreement.”  The movement incorporates representatives of all regions and political parties and associations.  The MNURT is ruled by a general assembly of founding organizations and governed by an executive council of elected and appointed representatives of all member organizations.  Its chair, President Rahmon, heads an executive committee elected by this council.
