DUSHANBE, August 7, Asia-Plus — On Monday August 7, Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov presided over a meeting with participation of senior representatives from the ministry of agriculture, agricultural-industrial structures and banks to discuss preparations for a cotton-harvesting campaign, presidential press service said.

Telling the meeting, the prime minister pointed to the necessity of taking all necessary measures to ensure efficient collection of the cotton harvest.  He noted that cotton remains one of the main export goods of Tajikistan and more than a half of irrigation lands in the country are allotted for this agricultural crop.

Oqilov noted that a special attention should be paid to preparation of cotton harvesters and other agricultural machines and cooperation between cotton-growing farms and investors.  Heads of relevant ministries and organizations are to take measures to tackle the cotton debt problem and define more precisely prices of cotton.

Barqi Tojik power holding is charged to provide regular electricity supplies to all pump stations and cotton-ginning factories during the cotton-harvesting campaign.
