DUSHANBE, August 16, Asia-Plus — The Ministry of Education (MoE) has elaborated and endorsed a single uniform for students of high schools and higher educational institutions in Tajikistan, Asia-Plus has learned from Jaloliddin Amirov, a leading specialist with the MoE high schools directorate.

According to him, the ministry has elaborated dozens of samples of schools uniforms and they will be submitted for consideration to school administrations and parent committees.  “The school uniform should not be manufactured from synthetic fabrics,” the MoE official said.

He added that schoolgirls who do not want to wear European-style clothing are offered a variant of national-style school uniform.  Schoolgirls also can wear trouser suits of dark tones – blue, brown, or black, he said.

Schoolgirls and female university students are recommended to not wear miniskirts and headscarves or hejabs.

Students are also prohibited from wearing clothing featuring symbols of other states.

“Recommendation endorsed by the ministry will be sent to the city and district education directorates in the beginning of the next week,” Amirov said.

In the meantime, an official with the MoC said that introduction of single uniform is an issue of future.  “This decision still has a recommendation character and people should make the final decision independently,” the source said.
